Tuesday, November 13th 6 pm - 7:30 pm
Meditation - Introduction to history and evidence based physical and psychological benefits. Stressors and stress. Sitting meditation and mindfulness.

Tuesday, November 20th 6 pm - 7:30 pm
Relaxation - Techniques to facilitate diaphragmatic breathing, vagus nerve function and body scans for relaxation with clients. Present moment and breath awareness.

Tuesday, November 27th 6 pm - 7:30 pm
Brain Integration – Explanation and maximization of left and right hemispheres of brain function. Nasal cycle. Techniques to balance hemispheres and overcoming homolateral movement. Walking meditation.

Tuesday, December 4th 6 pm - 7:30 pm
Review – Physiological and psychological benefits. Stress reduction techniques, diaphragmatic breathing, guided meditation. Q & A.

Objectives:

Licensed clinicians in medical and behavioral health care settings who are presented with the physiological, psychological and spiritual components of meditation and mindfulness will be able to:

  • explain how stressors and stress influence physiological and psychological health;
  • applyt meditation and mindfulness as an integrative care planning approach in the treatment of their clients/patients;
  • assess and describe clients who would benefit from meditation and mindfulness practices;
  • explain how mediation and mindfulness influence physiological and psychological health and well-being;
  • describe the application of therapeutic meditation and mindfulness techniques to improve patient care and patient outcomes;
  • create care plans for clients to apply meditation and mindfulness in their daily life.

Nurses, Licensed Professional Counselors/Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists
