About Reiki
During the Reiki session, the recipient is fully clothed, may be sitting or lying down as universal energy flows through the practitioner's hands to the areas in the bio-field of the recipient that may be deficient, blocked or disturbed, thus strengthening and soothing these areas with positive and supportive energy for healing.
Recipients report awareness of sensations including tingling, warmth, coolness, movement of energy, release of tension and stress, letting go, peace, joy, relaxation and many other positive outcomes during and after the session. Typically, a session is 50 minutes and can be tailored to fit individual needs.
Reiki is a Japanese term meaning universal (rei) energy (ki), it has a spiritual component yet it is not a religious or faith based tradition.
As the medical community becomes more receptive to Reiki to promote relaxation, more licensed health care professionals are practicing Reiki on patients to promote comfort, calmness and receptivity to medical treatment and self-care for their patients and families.
Reiki is practiced in over 800 hospitals across the US as part of an integrated approach to care. These hospitals include Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Cleveland Clinic, John Hopkins, Dana Farber Cancer Institute and many more. Studies demonstrate a reduction in blood pressure, pain, nausea, anxiety, stress and it also reduces many side effects related to chemotherapy, radiation and other medical procedures.
Reiki is administered through the hands of a Reiki practitioner with the client lying fully clothed on a massage table. The Reiki practitioner places his or her hands at locations around the head, shoulders, abdomen, legs and feet. Tissues are not manipulated. Reiki energy flows from the practitioner’s hands into the client’s body and energy field leaving the client with a wonderful glowing radiance that surrounds and fills the client with peace, relaxation and a feeling of well-being that promotes healing.
Distance Reiki has the same healing benefits as a visit to the Reiki practitioner’s office or home visit. The Reiki practitioner uses the Distance Symbol to send Reiki energy over the phone or on-line to the client’s bio-field just as if they were in the same room.
